More than 10,000 bears are kept on bile farms in China, and official figures put the number suffering the same fate in Vietnam at about 1,200. The bears have their bile extracted on a regular basis, which is not only used in traditional medicine but also in many ordinary household products. Bile is extracted using various painful, invasive techniques, all of which cause massive infection in the bears. This cruel practice continues despite the availability of a large number of effective and affordable herbal and synthetic alternatives.

Most farmed bears are kept permanently in cages, sometimes so small that they are unable to turn around or stand on all fours. Some bears are caged as cubs and never released, with many kept caged for up to 30 years. Most farmed bears are starved and dehydrated, and suffer from multiple diseases and malignant tumours that ultimately kill them.

Founded in 1998, Animals Asia promotes compassion and respect for all animals and works to bring about long-term change. We work to end the barbaric bear bile trade, which sees over 10,000 bears kept on bile farms in China, and, according to official figures, about 1,200 suffering the same fate in Vietnam. Animals Asia has rescued over 500 bears, caring for them at its award-winning bear sanctuaries in China and Vietnam.

Animals Asia also works to end the trade in dogs and cats for food in China and Vietnam, and lobbies to improve the welfare of companion animals, promote humane population management and prevent the cross border export of “meat dogs” in Asia. In addition, Animals Asia campaigns for an end to abusive animal practices in zoos and safari parks in Asia, and works closely with governing authorities to improve animal management and increase awareness of the welfare needs of captive animals.

MIKA & KAREN MOK’S DUET SINGLE “STARDUST”, RELEASED ON ALL DIGITAL PLATFORMS 20th MAY 2016

“Chinese Diva” Karen Mok has charmed audiences around the world. Her “Regardez World Tour”, which kicked off at the Taipei Arena three months ago, has taken her to markets such as Singapore, Macau, London, Madrid and Milan. Mok has now become the first Chinese singer to hold solo concerts in both Milan and Madrid – an indication of Mok’s influence in the international music world.

At Mok’s Milan show, she was fortunate to have International star MIKA make a special guest appearance. The dream team combination of East & West wowed the audience with their fantastic duet of MIKA’s hit, “Stardust”. After the concert, both Mok and MIKA felt that they needed to release “Stardust” as a brand new single for their fans. Despite their busy schedules, the pair managed to work remotely, exchanging phone calls and messages in order to come up with a truly special rendition of the single. It was Mok’s suggestion to add one Mandarin lyric, “When will I see you again” from a previous album, and MIKA suggested a new arrangement.

Another challenge was making a music video but this was made possible by using footage captured by the crew of 10 cameras who filmed the duo’s live performance in Milan.
